The Beam at Top of the Rock allows you to relive the iconic picture of lunching ironworkers on a steel beam that was 69 stories high. It is a newly added attraction at Rockefeller Center that lets you admire the breathtaking views of NYC’s famous Central Park and beyond while feeling like you are sitting precariously on the edge of a beam.

Recreate the historic photo of the 11 ironworkers who were sitting on a steel beam 69 stories above the ground that was taken in 1932 during the construction of 30 Rockefeller Plaza. Location

The Beam is located on the69th floor observation deck at Top of the Rock. You can enter the observation deck via an escalator from the 67th floor.

Opening hours: 9am to 12am (Timing may change during holidays)

Last entry: 11:10pm

The Beam duration: 5 - 15 minutes

Best time to visit: For a peaceful experience, early mornings and weekdays are recommended. The Summer months are a great time to visit. But avoid the Winter, specifically January and February, since The Beam is an outdoor experience and it can be very unpleasant during that time.

Know before you go

  • Access to The Beam experience is only available with the Top of the Rock tickets.
  • Top of the Rock is fully wheelchair accessible. However, visitors with wheelchairs must also be able to transfer themselves from a wheelchair to The Beam independently.
  • Bring your camera or smartphone to capture the perfect moment at The Beam.
  • There is a weight limit of 250 pounds.
  • For safety, the experience is not recommended for children below the height of 52 inches.
  • A child must be at the least 42 inches to be able to go on the ride and must be accompanied by a supervising adult on The Beam.
