The 9/11 Memorial & Museum is a place of remembrance, reflection, and understanding, honoring the nearly 3,000 lives lost during the tragic events of September 11, 2001. Located at the World Trade Center site in Lower Manhattan, the experience is divided into two distinct but connected parts:

  • 9/11 Memorial (free entry): An open-air space of reflection featuring two large reflecting pools set within the footprints of the Twin Towers, with the names of the victims etched in bronze.
  • 9/11 Museum (ticketed entry): An underground museum offering a powerful, immersive experience through artifacts, personal stories, and interactive exhibits that document the events of 9/11 and their lasting impact.

How to visit the 9/11 Memorial & Museum

  • Ways to explore: You can choose a self-guided exploration of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, add a Ground Zero and Memorial guided tour, or just select the guided Memorial tour. If you’re visiting as a family, you can also opt for the family pass, where you can avail a 20% discount on the total ticket price.
  • Additional access: Add a guided walking tour of Ground Zero and Memorial Grounds with skip-the-line access to the 9/11 Museum.
  • Queues & access: Skip ticket lines; security is mandatory (10–30 min). The Ground Zero 9/11 Memorial Tour & 9/11 Museum Tickets offer skip-the-line access to the museum.
  • When to book: Book at least a week in advance, especially during weekends, holidays, summer months, or around September.
  • Good to know: All tickets are timed-entry admission tickets. The exhibits are not recommended for children under 10 due to the nature of their content.

The Twin Reflecting Pools

The Survivor Tree

The Historical Exhibition

The Last Column

Standing in the center of the Memorial Hall, the Last Column marks the valiant efforts of the fire department Squad - 41 in their rescue efforts at Ground Zero and memorializes the lives of the six men of the squad, lost in the attack.

  • Toilets: Restrooms are available throughout the museum. 
  • Seating: There are benches available at the Concourse Lobby, Memorial Hall, Foundation Hall, Ramp, and within the exhibitions. 
  • Quiet space: Reflecting on 9/11 Studio is a designated quiet space in the museum. You can ask one of the staff members to direct you. 
  • Wi-Fi: All guests can avail of free Wi-Fi inside the museum.
  • Coatroom: All large bags, backpacks, & large umbrellas must be checked in. All bags are subject to security screening.
Audio guides at the 9/11 museum
  • You can either choose audio, guided, or self-guided tours, based on your needs.
  • Visitors may place items of tribute only in designated areas aside from the Memorial Pool.
  • The 9/11 Museum commemorates the tragic events of September 11, 2001, and it can be an emotionally overwhelming experience due to the exhibits, artifacts, and personal stories on display. It's important to be prepared for a somber and emotional experience.
  • Please note that while there are no restrictions, the 9/11 Memorial Museum may not be appropriate for children below the age of 10 due to the nature of the attraction.
  • For guests with disabilities, the museum and memorial are both wheelchair accessible. Additional tools like audio guides, sighted guides, sign language tours, and more are available for an efficient visit.

  • All guests are required to maintain appropriate behavior and conduct at all times given the somber nature of the museum and memorial.

Most of the public transportation in lower Manhattan, including buses and trains, have wheelchair-accessible entrances. The following transports are accessible by wheelchair.

  • NYC transit buses:M5, M9, and M20
  • Train stations: Chambers Street 1, 2, 3 subway stations, WTC Cortlandt 1 subway station, Fulton Street A, C, J, Z, 2, 3, 5 subway station, and Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall 4, 5, 6 subway station.

The accessible pick-up/drop-off location for privately owned vehicles is at the intersection of Liberty Street and Trinity Place.

Ramp: There is a ramp that leads towards the overlook that can be easily navigated by staying on the right. Visitors can also use the elevator to reach the lower levels.

  • Wheelchair accessibility: There are several entrances to the Memorial, marked with the wheelchair symbol. All commonly used mobility devices are also permitted on the premises.  Visitors can also make use of the manual wheelchairs and wheeled walkers available free of charge at the reception. 
  • Navigation: Every level of the museum has accessible escalators and elevators, next to the stairs. All areas open to the public are wheelchair accessible. The Memorial pool parapets are designed so a seated or shorter person may have the same view of the Memorial voids, and can access the inscriptions.
  • Service animals: Service animals are welcome on the premises.
  • Care partners: Free admission is offered to a care partner, accompanying a differently abled individual. Request the ticket, after purchasing your ticket, by sending an email to the memorial office.

  • Assistive Listening System: Induction loop transmitters compatible with hearing aids and cochlear implants are installed wherever there is audio around the museum.
  • Captioning and transcripts: Open captioning or transcripts are available for all the installations that feature audio. For videos, captions are on the screen. For simply audio, captions are provided nearby on a printed card, or monitor.
  • Sign language tour and interpretation: An ASL video tour is available with audio guides, details of the events of 9/11, and personal accounts. The ASL devices are available at the Information Desk. ASL Interpretation is available free of cost with the guided tours, provided 2 weeks’ notice is given via email. 
  • Real-time captioning: Real-time captioning for events and programs is available with a 3-week notice.
9/11 Memorial Museum tickets
  • Readers: Staff members are available throughout the museum to assist visitors in navigating the touch screen interactive exhibits. You can request this service at the Information Desk.
  • Sighted guides: Sighted guides are available to assist with the navigation of the Museum on advance notice.
  • Verbal description tours: Guided verbal description tours are available at the 9/11 Memorial Museum upon request with a 3-week notice.
  • Audio description: The Audio Description tour included in the audio guide allows blind visitors to independently explore the Museum while listening to descriptive personal accounts, the history, and the events of 9/11. It is VoiceOver compatible with IOS devices, and the device is provided at the Information Desk.
