MoMA’s first exhibition which was held on November 7, 1929, displayed the artwork of the four most celebrated European painters — Cézanne, Gauguin, Seurat, and Van Gogh.

Since then till today, this modern art space has hosted 3500+ exhibitions featuring the artwork of global artists and painters including Charles Burchfield, Toulouse-Lautrec, Diego Rivera, Walker Evans, etc.

Artwork in public spaces

At MoMA, art can also be experienced in public spaces. In October 2019, MoMA displayed six of its artworks on view in public spaces to celebrate its reopening. Featuring renowned works by contemporary artists, these exhibits offer an immersive encounter with form and space.
